Frustration has been vented by consumer groups about the Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC) not taking on board their concerns. "The TEC is focussing on removing barriers to free trade instead of improving the quality of living," said Rhoda Karpatkin, president emeritus of the US Consumers Union at the close of the Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD), in Washington on 7 April. The TEC, set up in April 2007 by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President George Bush, holds its second meeting in Brussels on 13 May.
