Jean-Pierre Audy (EPP-ED, France) wants EU regulation of the price of petrol. As crude oil hit a new historic high of US$130 a barrel, Audy called on the European Commission to study whether it would be possible to create a Community financing instrument which would buy and sell options on the world market for petrol.

Such an instrument would have the goal of guaranteeing - on a yearly basis - the price of a barrel of crude oil to member states, companies and, more generally, European citizens, at least within the eurozone. Audy already made the same proposal back in September 2005 - ...
