HYDROGEN ENERGY : PARLIAMENT TO BACK COMMISSION'S HYDROGEN PLANS.

Following the support of the Industry Committee, in April, for establishment of a Joint Initiative (JTI) for fuel cells and hydrogen, the European Parliament is likely to back the European Commission's plans. In Strasbourg, the Parliament is set to debate the hydrogen JTI in plenary, on 19 May, and to vote on 22 May. Despite this general support, rapporteur Pia Elda Locatelli (PES, Italy) regrets that the Commission and Council are only proposing funding, under the Seventh Research Framework Programme, of 470 million. Locatelli points to the figure put forward in 2007 by the European Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Technology Platform of some 7.4 billion between 2007 and 2015.
