By a vote of 95-5, the Senate passed this NLC-supported legislation to authorize about $22 billion to combat crime through various programs, including the hiring of about 100,000 new police officers, a ban on 19 semiautomatic assault weapons, and the imposition of a federal death penalty for dozens of offenses.
