Static Arises In Fight for Low-Power FM Radio.(Brief Article)

Low-Power FM Radio was once thought of as a sure thing for communities across the country. Recently, however, the FCC has run into conflict with both chambers of Congress seeking to restrict access. The White House has come out in favor of these broadcasts and the FCC regulations. But last month, the House strongly voted in favor of restricting low-power radio stations from entering the FM radio spectrum. The Senate, where two opposition bills await, expects this issue to come before them soon. In February, Sens. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) and Rod Gramms (R-Minn.) introduced bills that would effectively kill low-power FM access. Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) recently introduced a compromise bill to allow some low-power stations, but only under certain conditions.
