The Low Power Radio Coalition sponsored a press event regarding the FCC's Low Power Radio initiative. In a setting more like a concert than a Capitol Hill news event, the folk duo Indigo Girls used its music to encourage lawmakers to allow for more low power FM radio stations. The Indigo Girls, appeared with Senators John McCain, (R-Ariz.); Bob Kerrey, (D-Neb.); Paul Wellstone, (D-Minn.), and others, said the low-power stations would inject diversity into monochromatic airwaves.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors has expressed unified support for the FCC's decision to issue licenses for as many as 1,000 new "low-power" radio stations nationwide. The adopted rules could yield new stations throughout the FM band in less than a year. All of them would be non-commercial...
