House Passes FEMA Spending Measure.(Federal Emergency Management Admin. funding)(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

On July 30, 2001, the House of Representatives approved the Fiscal Year 2002 VA-HUD and Independent Agencies Appropriations bill (HR 2620), which provides funding for the nation's emergency management programs. The House VA-HUD subcommittee, chaired by Rep. James T. Walsh (R-N.Y.), restored much of the funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that was cut by the president's budget proposal. The Senate VA-HUD Subcommittee, chaired by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), approved its version of the funding bill (S. 1216) on July 19, and as Nation's Cities Weekly went to press the full Senate was expected to act on the bill before the start of the August congressional recess.
