The U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) is currently soliciting applications for the Universal Hiring Program, which funds the hiring of new law enforcement officers by state and local law enforcement agencies.

Applications are being sought for approximately $119 million in grant funds. For applications to receive priority consideration they must be postmarked on or before May 24, 2002. The final application deadline is June 21, 2002.

Approximately $121 million in grant funds is available for the COPS in Schools program, which funds the hiring of School Resource Officers by state and local law enforcement agencies. For applications to receive priority consideration they must be postmarked on or before May...
