EPA releases `gap analysis' report.(wastewater and drinking water )(Brief Article)

EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman released the long-awaited "gap analysis" documenting $535 billion in infrastructure needs of local wastewater and drinking water facilities over 20 years (2000-2019).
In her prepared remarks to the Water Environment Federation last week, Whitman credited the Bush administration with recognizing "the importance of helping state and local governments improve ... their [water] infrastructure," an "enormous challenge" with an "equally enormous price tag."
Whitman also announced the agency's intent to establish a forum early next year "not simply to ask for more money from Washington, but to give all interested parties the opportunity to discuss approaches on how to best meet the challenge."
