Congressional budget office: internet tax moratorium bill costly.(Brief Article)

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) warns in a new report of potentially significant costs for state and local governments if Congress passes legislation that extends and expands a moratorium on taxes on Internet services fees, as is proposed in legislation before the House (HR 49).
The telecom industry is pushing for language that would make clear the prohibition also applies to taxes on digital subscriber line (DSL) services.
The House Judiciary Committee approved the clarification when it sent the bill to the floor last week. Key senators have promised to adopt similar language.
HR 49, sponsored by Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Calif.), is popular legislation with 132 cosponsors. The moratorium is scheduled to expire Nov. 1 if Congress does...
