U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments in cable modem case.

The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on March 29 in what may be the final stage of the long-running legal battle over the classification of cable modem services.

NLC had joined the petition to the Supreme Court after the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals refused to reconsider a decision by one of its three-judge panels that declared cable modem service--an increasingly popular way to access the Internet--an "information service," but not a "cable service" subject to franchise fees as defined by the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
