NBC-LEO honors 2 pioneers in Congress.(National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, James E. Clyburn, Lorraine Miller)

Terry Riley, councilmember, Kansas City, Mo., and president of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO), presented Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), who is serving as the Majority Whip of the 110th Congress, and Lorraine Miller, clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, with the NBC-LEO National Leadership Award during the Congressional City Conference.
"We are honored today to have in our presence, true pioneers and great leaders from our nation's Congress," said Riley.
Clyburn represents the sixth district of South Carolina and is the first South Carolinian to become majority whip, and the second African-American to hold the position. Miller is the first African-American to be appointed to the position of House clerk and has...
