EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT SUPPORTS PROGRESSIVE RAIL LIBERALISATION

Adopting the report by Pavlos Sarlis (EPP, Greece) on January 12 in Strasbourg, the European Parliament expressed its support, for the progressive liberalisation of the rail transport sector, alongside social measures for workers in the sector . MEPs called on the Commission to assess the effective application of Directive 91/440/EEC in the Member States. They also called for proposals on the interopera bility of national networks and possible derogations from the application of comp etition rules.
