AIRBUS WINS COMMERCIAL CONTRACT FOR A400M TRANSPORTER.

Defence Ministers from eight European countries signed a contract in Brussels on December 18 covering the purchase of 196 Airbus A400M military transport aircraft (Germany 73, Belgium 7, Spain 27, France 50, the United Kingdom 25, Luxembourg 1, Portugal 3 and Turkey 10) for close to Euro 16 billion.

The contract will permit the launch of Europe's largest-ever joint defence industry programme. Italy, a one-time associate in the programme with a potential order for 16 aircraft, has not confirmed its commitment. The project is led by Airbus Military Company (AMC), a venture in which Airbus holds a majority stake alongside the Belgian company Flabel, TAI of Turkey and the Portuguese OGMA group.
