ALSTOM CONFIRMS GDF ORDER FOR SECOND GIANT METHANE TANKER.

The French industrial group Alstom confirmed an order from Gaz de France (GDF) on July 19 for a second 153,500 cubic metre methane tanker for delivery in 2006, the first order on Alstom Marine's books since the beginning of the 2004/2005 financial year on April 1. The methane tankers will be delivered to NYK Armateur, a future subsidiary of Gaz de France (40%) and the Japanese ship owner NYK Line (60%). The value of the new contract has not been revealed by either Alstom or GDF. The French group claims the two tankers will be the largest such ships in the world, including innovations in terms of tank insulation and propulsion systems. The ships are expected to have a service life of twenty years.
