TRANSPORT COUNCIL : MEMBER STATES CONFIRM THEIR CONTROL OVER SESAR.

Things are moving for SESAR (Single European Sky Air Traffic Management and Research), the new programme for modernising air traffic control in Europe. The Council of EU Transport Ministers agreed in Luxembourg on 9 June on a general approach on a proposal for a Regulation on the establishment of a Joint Undertaking - along the lines of the original body set up to manage the Galileo satellite navigation programme - to develop the new-generation European air traffic management system.

The European Commission tabled its draft Regulation in November 2005. It is primarily technical and the Council has not made any significant amendments to the basic text, focusing on 9 June on procedural issues regarding for example committee procedure and votes by the Joint...
