NEW REGULATION ON AVIATION SECURITY.

The EU Council of Ministers adopted, on 4 March, a new regulation on aviation security in the Union, which was subject to an agreement in a conciliation procedure with the European Parliament on 11 January this year. This new text will replace the current Regulation 2320/2002, which was adopted in the wake of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, but which are today considered too rigid and too detailed.

It establishes common aviation security rules in the EU, for example for access control for different areas of the airport, the inspection of personnel, passengers and luggage and checking of planes. In comparison to the current regulation, it contains new requirements concerning in-flight security and establishes a single security control for passengers...
