The U.S. House of Representatives.

Association Management, November, 2000

The U.S. House of Representatives did not approve a bill that would create a commission to study privacy policies--those relating to the collection and dissemination of personal information--and make recommendations regarding future government regulation of privacy issues. The bill failed to receive the requisite two-thirds majority far passage, although the vote was 250-146 in support of the legislation.

ASAE supported the concept behind the creation of this commission, as it would have provided the opportunity for associations to work with the industries that they represent and demonstrate how self-regulation can be effective.
