Distillers dried grains (DDGs)--coproducts of converting corn into ethanol--might have additional new uses, including reducing weeds and thereby decreasing dependence on herbicides.
USDA Agricultural Research Service plant physiologist Steve Vaughn is one of many scientists conducting studies that suggest that applying DDGs as a surface mulch to soil can result in fewer weeds.
