* A letter sent this month to retailers who carry John Deere Consumer Products said that the company has "agreed in principle" to a deal that would give Home Depot and John Deere dealers exclusive rights to sell Homelite branded products.
"John Deere Consumer Products is adopting a new business model to ensure ongoing growth and profitability ..." according to the letter, which went on to say that the decision to sell Homelite products exclusively through Home Depot came after John Deere worked with the retailer on its Scotts line of lawn tractors.
The letter said that by early 2001, Home Depot and John Deere dealers will be the only outlets in the U.S. authorized to sell Homelite products, but other dealers would still have access to Homelite parts...
