CPSC AMENDS STANDARD FOR GARAGE DOOR OPERATORS.

* The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in November issued a final rule amending its safety standard for automatic residential garage door operators, reflecting changes made by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) to its standard UL 325.

The rule became effective Dec. 27, 2000, and will apply to garage door operators sold on or after that date.

The changes to the standard allow for recent advances in garage door safety. Some new door operators have an inherent protection system that can continuously monitor the position of the door.
