Do-It-Yourself Retailing, December, 2002
During a recent meeting with investors, Home Depot CEO Bob Nardelli revealed that the company was setting up a team to explore the possibility of making an international expansion. Wall Street insiders and some press reports soy that the team will be headed by a former Lehman Brothers mergers and acquisitions expert.
Nardelli told investors that if the company expands into Europe, it will consider acquisitions and not opening its own stores. As a result, analysts believe Home Depot may be looking with renewed interest at Kingfisher. Kingfisher is Europe's leading home improvement retailer. It operates more than 590 home improvement stores in 12 countries and enjoys market-leading positions in the UK, France, Poland and Taiwan.
