* Earlier this year, Asylum Research filed counterclaims (see IBO 11/30/03) against Veeco for infringement of a patent that it licensed from the University of California that permits the MFP-3D atomic force microscope (AFM) to operate faster. It is suing Veeco for not continuing to pay royalties for developing a hardware and software module.
