Dear Katrina:
Sometimes hair loss in young girls is
caused by braiding or pulling the hair
too tight. Also, stressful experiences,
particularly an illness or a high fever,
can speed up hair loss for a while. This
usually happens a few weeks after the
stressful experience. Patches of
baldness can also appear in children for
other reasons; sometimes there is an
underlying medical or nutritional cause.
If you notice such patches, your doctor
should see you to determine a cause.
Remember that just because you see
hair falling out when you comb doesn't
mean you're losing an abnormal
