Record delays

THE US Government said that airline flight delays had risen by 20% in 2000 to hit a record level. The Federal Aviation Administration said that almost 30% of national delays attributed to increased volume of flights were blamed on congestion at New York's LaGuardia Airport. A reduction in December's delays did not offset the record annual pace, which was mostly attributed to bad weather. There were just over 29,000 air traffic operations delayed by 15 minutes or more in December, compared with over 34,000 in November.
