Hainan Airlines is taking a major stake (51%) in China Xinhua Airlines as part of the CAAC's (Civil Aviation Authority of China) demand for a consolidation of Chinese airlines. Meanwhile, it has also been announced that China Eastern and China Yunnan are to merge.

Sydney Airport has withheld price increases for regional travellers as part of its proposed increase in landing charges and infrastructure usage charges.

China Southern Airlines experienced an 80% outbound passenger load factor on its four-times weekly service from Los Angeles to Guangzhou, China, in January. The load was split, with an average 91% load in Economy, 51% in Premium Economy, and 60% in Premium Business.
