Smiths detection adds Farran.(Smiths Group PLC added Farran Technology Ltd. to its Detection division)(Brief Article)

Smiths Group has added Irish Farran Technology Ltd to its Detection division. Farran is developing millimetre wave technologies for security applications. Smiths Detection MD Stephen Phipson said: "The Farran technology complements our X-ray and trace detection equipment, which is widely used for airport and building security, and ensures that we stay at the forefront in the development of detection systems".

Smiths Detection plans to expand Farran's R & D activity of its microwave sub-systems operations. Farran's detection portal, which uses millimetre wave technology, has completed successfully laboratory testing and prototype field trials will begin this year.
