EADS North America has selected Mobile Downtown Airport, Alabama, as its US airport site to build and support the KC-330, a military derivative of the Airbus A330 airliner that it is offering to the US Air Force. The site selection process finally came down to four sites: Mobile; Melbourne International Airport, Florida; Stennis International Airport, Mississippi; and Charleston International Airport, South Carolina.

It is planned that the new facility will begin operations in 2006 with the establishment of an aircraft engineering centre.
