Fairbanks International Airport in Alaska, USA, was about to complete the first phase of its baggage-processing overhaul as this edition closed for press.

The terminal building was mainly developed in the 1950s and 1960s, so a major renovation was required to enhance its efficiency. Part of this current project includes upgrading the baggage systems. Logan Teleflex won a $3.6 million contract to manufacture and install a two-step check-in process that it previously introduced to Alaska Airlines at Anchorage/Ted Stephens Airport.

Installation began at Fairbanks in October 2007, with Phase 1 of the project due for completion by March 2008. A target date of March 2009 has been set for Phase 2.
