GM, FORD DEALERS LEAST HAPPY: LEXUS RANKS NO. 1 IN POWER SURVEY.(J.D. Power and Associates' dealer attitude survey)

LOS ANGELES - General Motors and Ford Motor Co. franchises were ranked at the bottom in the 1998 dealer attitude survey conducted recently by J.D. Power and Associates.

Saturn was the only exception, but Saturn gave up its most-satisfied-dealers title to Lexus for the first time in six years.

All franchises of the former Chrysler Corp. showed improvement from last year.

Dealer dissatisfaction with GM and Ford caused the greatest disparity ever in scores of domestic and import-label franchises, the survey noted. The rankings were obtained by Automotive News.

Most of the slump at Ford and GM stores was due to smaller dealers feeling ignored by the manufacturers. Ford's and GM's experiments to slash their overdealered ranks contributed...
