Two luxury-segment competitors will kick off the first full day of the Automotive News World Congress.
Mark Fields, president of Ford Motor Co.'s Premier Automotive Group, is the opening speaker on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 14. He will be followed by Tom Purves, CEO of BMW (US) Holding Corp.
Fields, who has been in the job since July, is in a critical position. Ford is counting on the Premier group - the Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin and Jaguar brands - along with Lincoln to deliver one-third of its global profits by mid-decade.
Fields is no stranger to difficulty. In his previous job, he was instrumental in turning around money-losing Mazda Motor Corp. as its first non-Japanese president. He held that position for three years.
