United Kingdom supplier Wagon PLC expects to benefit from a trend toward outsourcing lightweight body components.
Wagon has a thriving business building aluminum doors for several luxury-car manufacturers. But CEO Nick Brayshaw sees more opportunities as lightweight-metal doors and other structures move from luxury models to cheaper vehicles.
``We are seeing aluminum appearing in other structural places,'' such as the instrument panel carrier and engine cradle of the Volkswagen Phaeton,'' he said.
Wagon's automotive sales rose 7.5 percent to $512 million in the first half of the group's financial year ending Sept. 30. Operating profit from the business fell 16.3 percent to $12 million.
