TI Automotive said it will build a $30 million plant in Lavonia, Ga., that will supply fuel tank systems for U.S.-built BMW vehicles by spring 2005.
Construction on the 145,000-square-foot facility will begin this month.
The plant will produce the fuel tank system destined for vehicles built at BMW's Spartanburg, S.C., plant, and vehicles for an Asian automaker. TI Automotive declined to name the company.
The plant also will produce filler pipes and other components connected to the fuel tank. The plant will employ 100 and plans to produce 350,000 fuel tank systems each year by 2006.
