Ford Credit gets OK from China

DETROIT- The China Banking Regulatory Commission has approved Ford Motor Credit Co.'s initial request to provide auto financing in China, the automaker's finance subsidiary said yesterday.

Ford Credit plans to offer financing to consumers and its more than 100 dealers in China. The company, which will operate in China as Ford Automotive Finance, plans initially to invest $60 million in the venture.

Ford Motor, as part of its $1 billion China expansion plan, recently said it will build an assembly plant in Nanjing. The automaker builds the Mondeo and Fiesta cars and Transit commercial vans at its two China plants.
