Some double-barreled news - OK, possible news - out of Fiat Auto:
* Sources say it's negotiating with Chery to have the Chinese manufacturer build Alfa Romeos for China.
* Fiat's Alfa Romeo brand may return to the United States in the third quarter of 2009.
Antonio Baravalle, Alfa Romeo's brand director, told financial analysts this month that J.D. Power is conducting a market analysis for Alfa Romeo in Los Angeles. And Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne said Alfa may enter China in two or three years.
Since 2002, the Italian automaker has had a Chinese partner, Nanjing Automobile, which builds Fiat-brand cars. Nanjing plans to sell 36,000 to 38,000 Fiat units this year in China and to reach 300,000 sales by 2010.
