Tyco Electronics Corp. is closing its Spartanburg, S.C., manufacturing plant and transferring work to two factories near Greensboro, N.C.
The company cited fewer orders to fill from North American automotive customers.
The South Carolina plant began production under the Tyco banner in 2000.
It supplies electronic connectors used in engine controls and wiring harnesses to several automakers and Tier 1 suppliers, spokesman Mike Ratcliff said last week.
Ratcliff declined to name the automakers and suppliers or disclose the plant's annual sales.
The nearby BMW Manufacturing Corp. assembly plant is not a customer, a BMW spokeswoman said.
