Subaru of America plans to increase its U.S. dealership network from 601 to 635 by the end of 2010.
Many of the dealerships will be appointed in Southern California and in Sun Belt states. Subaru expects to begin adding stores this year.
The company forecasts a rise in U.S. sales from 200,703 units last year to 236,000 by 2010. New models are being counted on to drive the growth.
A reskinned Tribeca SUV is due in June, the redesigned Impreza and WRX are scheduled to arrive in September, and a redesign for the Forester is planned for the first quarter of 2008.
"We believe this period of growth will rival the 1995-1998 period,'' says Tom Doll, Subaru's executive vice president.
