American Axle opens plant in China
CHANGSHU, China - American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. officially opened its first plant in Asia here May 17. The plant will supply American Axle customers in Asia, says CEO Richard E. Dauch.
The plant produces rear axles. It will add gear production in the first quarter of 2008. American Axle originally thought it would take at least another year longer for the plant to produce gears, Dauch says.
Initial investment is $35 million, but that could grow. Dauch says the company is committed to investing more than $100 million in China.
American Axle, of Detroit, manufactures driveline and drivetrain systems and related components, modules, chassis systems and metal-framed products.
