55% of Lear shares opposed Icahn offer
DETROIT - Billionaire investor Carl Icahn's ill-fated attempt to acquire seating and electronics supplier Lear Corp. was defeated July 16 by a vote of 38.66 million shares opposed to 22.21 million shares in favor. An additional 9.37 million shares abstained or did not vote.
All told, 55.0 percent of Lear's shares voted against the proposal.
Lear disclosed the voting results in a quarterly filing yesterday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Icahn originally offered $36 a share for the supplier and then raised it to $37.25 a share, or $2.9 billion. Several large shareholders openly fought the move.
