European automakers and suppliers are racing to be the first to launch a diesel hybrid vehicle.
Robert Bosch GmbH is bidding to supply its technology for the diesel hybrid version of Peugeot's new 308 hatchback. That diesel hybrid is due in 2010.
Bosch already has a contract to supply diesel hybrid technology to another European automaker. For that program, Bosch will supply the electronic controller for the diesel engine and the electric motor and its controller.
Bosch expects that system also to be on the road by 2010, Rolf Leonhard, the company's executive vice president of engineering for diesel systems, told Automotive News Europe at a press event.
