Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president in charge of Audi of America Inc., is trying to strike a balance between growth and profitability.

Audi's German parent has set an ambitious growth target of 200,000 sales in the United States by 2015 - more than double last year's 93,506. But the weakness of the dollar relative to the euro may make that goal hard to reach if Audi wants to remain profitable here, says de Nysschen.

To spice up its image, Audi has been launching such vehicles as the A5/S5 coupe and the R8 sports car. The cars have been hits. The A4 sedan and station wagon, Audi's volume models in the United States, will be replaced this fall with a larger car with a new engine. De Nysschen...
