CNN opens Havana News Bureau. (Cable News Network)

The Clinton administration recently allowed American news organizations to open bureaus in Cuba. Thus far, Fidel Castro has granted only CNN the permission to do so. This move marks the first time in nearly three decades that a foreign news corps will be present in the Communist country. (In 1969, Havana expelled the last correspondent from The Associated Press.) The U.S.' restriction barring Cuban news organizations from having bureaus in the United States is still intact.

Lucia Newman heads CNN's bureau in Havana, which opened in March. She is the network's senior Latin American correspondent and relocated to Havana from CNN's Mexico City bureau.
