NCSA TESTS ON VIRUS SCANNER SOFTWARE OUT

The National Computer Security Association has tested the various virus scanner software packages to determine their relative ability to detect, identify and deal with viruses before a program is run.

Of the 19 tested, those with the highest total scores were Dr. Solomon's Toolkit; Fridrik Skulason's FProt; and Leprechaun Software's Virus Buster. McAfee's Scan; RG Software's Vi-Spy, Central Point's AntiVijrus; and XTree's ViruSafe were only slightly behind, with all earning at least 80 percent of points possible.

Packages accumulating 75-80 percent of total points possible included Thijssen's HTScan; Norton's AntiVirus; and Microcom's Virex-PC.
