Group 1 buys Archetype. (Group 1 Software Inc., Archetype Systems Ltd.)(Mergers Acquisitions Alliances)

As expected, Lanham, Md.-based Group 1 Software has bought Archetype Systems Ltd. of the United Kingdom, a maker of software that supports high-volume database publishing. Details were not disclosed. Archetype's customers include American Express and General Electric Credit. Support for the acquired products will be handled by Group 1 Europe in London, corporate headquarters in Lanham, and Group 1's new Minneapolis, Minn., branch office.
Group 1 makes database marketing and publishing, customer information file building, and mailing software. The companies recently signed a letter of agreement regarding the sale.
