Oracle, PeopleSoft land big federal govt. contracts for human resources software. (Oracle Corp.; PeopleSoft Inc.)

Oracle Corp. is upgrading two of the largest Dept. of Defense (DOD) personnel systems with Oracle Human Resources software. The Office of the Secretary of Defense selected Oracle to build the DOD's new Civilian Personnel Data System (DCPDS), while the Air Force picked the same application to modernize its military Personnel Data System (PDS).

Oracle says the combined orders represent "what is believed to be the world's largest human resources application." The new systems will manage information on nearly 800,000 civilians in the Defense Department and more than 1.2 million Air Force military and retired personnel.
