* Solar cell to be tested in space - A more efficient and less costly solar cell developed at the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) in Golden for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has been tested on a recently launched satellite. NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, is funding the research at SERI to improve the efficiency of these indium phosphide cells.

Because of its high cost, this material is not widely used in earth-bound photovoltaic (PV) systems. However, according to SERI researchers, indium phosphide is getting a lot of attention today because of its ability to tolerate high levels of radiation.
