United States Secretary of Energy- James D Watkins, has ushered in a new era of solar energy research at the national Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, recently in a ground-breaking ceremony for the Solar Energy Research Facility (SERF), which will be the new home for NREL'S photovoltaics research laboratories and programme office.
"This new research facility again highlights President Bush's commitment to renewable energy as an essential element of his National Energy Strategy," Admiral Watkins said. "The president's elevation of NREL to a national lab in September reflected the increased role renewables will play in our energy future. Now SERF will provide a state-of-the-art facility in which to conduct the research."
