What is claimed to be the world's first commercial-scale plant to produce Biogas from household waste has recently begun operations fifty miles north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Called Nordsjaellands Biogasanlaeg, the plant replaces an incinerator station, forced to close by new environmental legislation. It was designed to convert 20,000 tons of organic, household waste per day into Biogas for a nearby district heating project, compost for commercial sale and liquid fertiliser for the parks and landscaped areas of local towns.
