Targets for reducing energy losses from distribution transformers should become part of the EU's overall strategy for reducing global warming, according to a recent report supported under the THERMIE programme. The report is produced by a team consisting of Essent, Pauwels, ETSU and KEMA, coordinated by the European Copper Institute and supported by the European Commission.

It is the first project to examine the energy savings potential from energy-efficient transformers in Europe. It enables the European Commission, governments and Member States, regulators, utilities and major purchasers of electrical transformers to evaluate policy options regarding transformer losses. Over 40% of total losses in an electricity network is directly attributable to transformers....
