Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle said last week that he will call up his comprehensive energy policy bill late this week as promised.

Daschle, D-S.D., said Tuesday that he would bring S. 1766 to the floor before the Senate adjourns for a week-long recess Feb. 18-25. "All I said, if you'll recall," Daschle told reporters, "on several occasions is that I intend to bring up this bill prior to the Founder's Day recess and I'm going to do that because I hold to my commitments and my promises."

Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., also told reporters he was sure the bill would come to the floor this week. Spokesmen for both the majority and minority staffs expected the bill to come up Thursday, with senators only...
